An "under-the-covers" investigation of the strong, silent, nordic type

Kommissarie F. Curiosa is a female detective in her mid-twenties delving into the baffling yet somehow tantalizing mystery of the Swedish male in Sweden's chilly capital city. She's a modern-day Mata Hari, infiltrating the grisly underworld of dating in a foreign country.
During the course of her investigation, Curiosa discovered that blogs about dating are an excellent way to get dates. Of course, none of her dates were actually with the strong, silent, Nordic type. Her romantic attention was soon captivated to a fellow expat blogger, who took the interesting and unconventional approach of writing odes to Ullrick. Turns out, the way to a girl's heart is through her cat.
This resulted in a suspension of Curiosa's investigation of the strong, silent Nordic type, but not to fear, her new relationship provides plenty of 'blog fodder', much to the dismay of her significant other.

Det är ganska "skrämmande" hur olika det känns att läsa din blogg beroende på om det är på svenska eller engelska. Man skiftar liksom perspektiv. Precis som att byta plats på en fast. Helt plötsligt känns gruppdynamiken annorlunda.
Om du ville ha ett råd i den här besvärliga frågan så föreslår jag att du fortsätter med att blanda. Välj språk efter dagsformen.
Eller så kan du alltid blogga på engelska och kommentera på svenska. (oanade möjligheter här).

mli, i'm just curious. what is it that seems so different? the voice, or the tone? or something else?
i know what you mean. i feel "not myself" when i write in swedish. or rather, there are some things that i can only write about in english. part of it i'm sure has to do with command of the language. (it's much easier to be sarcastic in english, for example). i think that is actually one of the tests of how well someone speaks a foreign language. it's the line between being fluency and really being able to "feel" a language. i am fluent for all practical purposes, but i can't always, for example, follow jokes in swedish.
I would say I prefer to read blogs written in the blogger's native tongue.
Exactly for the reasons you mentioned: richer nuances.
But it really has to do with the command of the language.
In the case of this blog, it feels odd when you switch to Swedish. But I think that has to do with the fact that you started out using English. If you had started blogging in Swedish, it might have felt equally odd if you had switched to English.
In your case it's still too early to notice much difference between the two. If you continue using both English and Swedish there may be noticeable differences. It has quite a bit to do with confidence, I think. Even the slightest bit of hesitation becomes quite obvious after a while.

Hm, Eff skriver t.ex. betydligt mer normalt på svenska jämför med engelskan som blir mer uppstyltad (vuxenengelska?).
Jag föredrar enkelt skriftspråk, vilket du använder Curiosa (din svenska flyter på bra den också). Den brittiska engelskan tenderar däremot att vara mer självironisk (nästintill "självutplåning") och ibland så högtravande att den trillar ihop i sina dubbelantydningar.
Men för att svara på frågan: Jag kan inte svara på den. Att jämföra din engelska med svenskan är som att jämföra två kroppsdelar (tänker absolut inte på något särskilt). Same same but different. Eller hur? :>
Men som Eff säger, bloggen är störtskön. Fast jag blir alltid lika förvånand när flytande svenska trillar ut mellan de perfekt upphängda engelska vitsarna... På något sätt kan jag ändå inte föreställa mig dig med amerikansk (southern) brytning. Guns or stiff upper lip? :>

i think the new rule is "swedish when i'm drunk, or when i just feel like it."
as for my accent, not a trace of a southern accent. pretty neutral if i do say so myself.

Kanske har att göra med att jag skriver så mycket teknisk engelska. Nästan bara teknisk engelska (främst på ett datanördforum). Min Master's Thesis skrev jag på engelska också, ja.
Sen gillar jag uttrycksfullheten i engelskan, som känns större än i svenskan. Det finns så många porriga ord.
Sedan skiter jag lite i att jag misshandlar svenskan, men undviker att misshandla engelskan, om jag inte chattar med polare på andra sidan Pölen, då.
